James Crabb
Scottish-born James Crabb is widely regarded as one of the world’s leading classical accordionists, and a renowned authority and passionate advocate for the works of Piazzolla. Critics internationally praise him for his breathtaking virtuosity and versatile musicianship. He has recorded for major record labels EMI Classics and Chandos, and in 2019 gave the World Premiere of Brett Dean’s accordion concerto in Sweden, also recorded for BIS label. He was Artistic Director of Four Winds (2016-20) and curator of UKARIA 24, and is a passionate and sought-after music educator and mentor.
Recent highlights include the World Premiere performance and recording of Brett Dean’s new accordion concerto The Players with the Swedish Chamber Orchestra, Sally Beamish’s accordion concerto The Singing at London Proms, an on-stage and orchestral role in Brett Dean’s opera Hamlet at Glyndebourne Opera, Cologne Opera and Adelaide Festival, touring Seavaigers double concerto (Beamish) with Anthony Marwood in USA and Canada, New Century Chamber Orchestra in San Francisco, Adam Chamber Music Festival, New Zealand, featuring in CO.3 Dance company’s In Line production in Perth, a tour with Sinfonia Cymru in the UK, West Australian Symphony’s 2020 season opening Gala, and return engagements to Ukaria, Sydney Symphony and ANAM.
