Volunteer Applications

Volunteering in 2008

As an AFCM Volunteer you are an integral and important part of bringing the Festival to fruition. Volunteers are the Festival’s ambassadors and therefore a main point of contact for our patrons and artists. To make a successful Festival we need to focus on what will be the experience that we want our patrons and artists to leave with. Think about your own recent positive experience? It might have been:

I can’t wait to go back next year, oh! the people were so friendly, helpful and really went the extra mile, the music and the artists where divine and inspirational.

After a successful Festival in 2007 our Artistic Director, Piers Lane, has again invited a world class list of artists to perform at The Australian Festival of Chamber Music.

The Festival would like to think that volunteering with us will provide you with a rewarding and satisfying experience. Don’t forget there are always some wonderful dinner party stories which come from funny situations (names excluded).

Duties and Responsibilities

As an AFCM Volunteer there are numerous roles and slots which you can choose to be involved with. Attached is a list of roles and their description. Our dedicated group of loyal volunteers know their preferences and I hope our new volunteers will look at the list and find something that fits their liking.

The roles range from driving artists to rehearsals and performances, arranging seating for performances, greeting our patrons and helping patrons to their seats, checking tickets and selling AFCM raffle tickets, to name a few.

Schedule

Drivers start on Sunday 29th June, the remainder start on Opening Night at the Civic Theatre.

Your shifts will be matched with your availability.

Volunteer Privileges

Being a volunteer is about the personal rewards you receive; in our case those rewards are enriched by being part of a world class music event. This year, as a volunteer, there are defined benefits you may be eligible to receive. Some complimentary tickets will be available for you and a guest to experience the music first hand; however this will be subject to ticket availability.

This is particularly necessary at the Civic Theatre and Riverway Arts Centre where we do not have our own front of house volunteers. However, if you are volunteering at a smaller venue it may be possible to stand in the back of the venue to enjoy the performance. It will not be possible to provide tickets to every concert for every volunteer. A ticket allocation form will be issued to you when you sign up for AFCM volunteering. On this form please indicate the concerts you would most like to attend and return it to the Festival Office as soon as possible.

The AFCM will be providing our female volunteers with a beautiful crimson chiffon scarf with the Festival logo. Our male volunteers will receive a polo shirt with the Festival logo on the upper left side. Please wear this item of clothing during your shift so that our patrons and artists can readily identify you as a Festival volunteer and be secure in the knowledge that they will be looked after well.

As a volunteer you are an important part of the Festival Team and we hope you will be involved with the Festival and take advantage of the experience being offered.
